Core Values

Mercado College traces its beginnings to 21 August 2002, when it was established as Health Educators, Inc. under SEC Registration No. CS200253873. On 04 November 2002, it was formally renamed the DMMC Institute of Health Sciences (DMMCIHS), marking the start of its identity as a private, non-sectarian institution committed to developing health professionals and educators. Over the years, its SEC status was reaffirmed through several revisions (2003, 2009, 2016), until in June 2024, the institution embraced a new chapter under the name Mercado College.

In its early academic journey, the institution focused on teacher education, securing permits between 2004 and 2006 and earning Government Recognition GR 073 s.2006, dated 12 December 2006, for the Bachelor of Elementary Education (majors in Early Childhood Education and Special Education) and the Bachelor of Secondary Education (majors in English, Mathematics, and Physics).

The health sciences soon became its flagship. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing, launched in 2003, received Government Recognition GR 008 s.2007, dated 24 January 2007, establishing DMMCIHS as a trusted nursing school. This was followed by expansions into allied health programs: the Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (Government Recognition GR 019 s.2009, dated 16 April 2009), the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology (Government Recognition GR 003 s.2009, dated 15 January 2009), and the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (Government Recognition GR 096 s.2014, dated 31 March 2014).

In 2007, the institution also received Certificates of TVET Program Registration from TESDA for two technical-vocational programs: Biomedical Equipment Servicing NC II and Caregiving NC II, marking its expansion into skills-based education aligned with national workforce needs.

Recognizing the need for holistic education, the institution diversified beyond health sciences. In 2010, it was granted Government Recognition GR 075 s.2010 for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with majors in Operations Management, Marketing Management, and Human Resource Management, as well as Government Recognition GR 061 s.2010, dated 11 March 2010, for the Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

The institution sustained its growth into the following decade. It introduced the Diploma in Midwifery (Temporary Permit TP 085 s.2011, dated 24 March 2011), later elevated to the Bachelor of Science in Midwifery, officially granted Government Recognition GR 032 s.2024, dated 14 May 2024. It also expanded into the sciences with the Bachelor of Science in Biology, granted Government Recognition GR 060 s.2023, effective AY 2024–2025.

As part of the national education reforms, the institution extended its mandate to basic education. It received its 1st Endorsement to Operate for Senior High School in SY 2015–2016, followed by its Permit to Operate for Senior High School in SY 2016–2017. Later, the institution was also awarded Government Recognition for its Junior High School Program in SY 2023–2024 (DepEd).

These milestones demonstrate the institution’s three-pronged commitment to higher education, basic education, and technical-vocational education, ensuring a seamless and holistic academic pathway for learners.

Today, as Mercado College, the institution stands as a dynamic private, non-sectarian higher education institution with strong foundations in basic education, health sciences, teacher education, psychology, business, and technical-vocational education. For over two decades, it has remained steadfast in its mission to nurture competent, ethical, and service-oriented graduates who can meet both national and global demands.
